Explosions were reported on Qeshm Island in Iran early Wednesday, as per Iranian media sources.
The semi-official Mehr News Agency stated that the blasts were heard on the island but did not give more details.
Later, Iran state broadcaster IRIB mentioned that multiple explosions were detected near Suza and Masen areas on the Qeshm island.
IRIB indicated that initial evaluations point to a potential projectile hitting an uninhabited region between the two sites.
These reports came out during a visit to Qeshm by Hojjatoleslam Vakilpour, who is the Iranian supreme leader’s special envoy, and he was engaging with local cultural and political leaders.
While on the visit, Vakilpour referenced Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei’s statement that “war and diplomacy should be pursued at the same time and should not be seen as opposing each other,” according to IRIB.
Trump says US-Iran talks never stopped
Earlier, US President Donald Trump dismissed reports claiming that talks between the United States and Iran had stopped, insisting that discussions between the two sides have continued without interruption.
In a post on social media, Trump described reports suggesting that Washington and Tehran had ceased communication as false and erroneous.
He said communication between the two countries had taken place continuously over recent days, including today.
“Fake news reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the USA stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous,” Trump wrote.
