Kuwait halted air traffic on Wednesday after Iranian missile and drone strikes hit Terminal One at Kuwait International Airport, leaving casualties and damaging key facilities, officials said.
A spokesperson for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Abdullah Al-Rajhi, said the airport’s emergency plan was activated immediately after the attack, reported The Kuwait Times.
Authorities launched security and technical measures to protect passengers, staff, and infrastructure.
Flights were suspended and diverted to nearby airports until further notice, he said.
Al-Rajhi added that operations would remain suspended while teams assess the damage and carry out repair work.
Technical experts are currently evaluating losses before restoration begins, he said.
One killed
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry said one person was killed in the earlier drone and missile strikes that hit a terminal at Kuwait International Airport.
In a statement on X, the ministry strongly condemned what it called “brutal and ongoing Iranian attacks” carried out with ballistic missiles and drones.
It said the strikes once again targeted civilian and key installations, including the airport, resulting in one death, several injuries, and damage to vital facilities, including diplomatic missions.
The ministry added that Kuwait reserves its “full and inherent right” to take necessary measures in response to what it described as repeated Iranian aggression.
