The government has launched Pur Azm Pakistan, a national platform aimed at connecting young people with skills training, jobs, entrepreneurship, and economic opportunities. The initiative has been launched through the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) in partnership with UNICEF and Generation Unlimited (GenU).
Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, said Pakistan’s youth are the country’s biggest strength and opportunity. He said the new platform will link education, skills development, and employment through a coordinated national system.
He added that the government wants every young person to access opportunities and play a role in the country’s growth and prosperity.
According to organisers, nearly 67 per cent of Pakistan’s population is under the age of 30. However, around 32 million young people are currently not in education, employment, or training.
Pur Azm Pakistan aims to tackle this challenge by bringing together the government, private sector, development partners, and youth. The platform will expand access to skills training, jobs, and entrepreneurship, especially for girls and young people from underserved communities.
UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, Pernille Ironside, said Pakistan has a major opportunity to turn its large youth population into an economic advantage by helping young people move from learning to earning.
She said Pur Azm Pakistan is an important step towards creating partnerships and systems that will increase skills development and economic opportunities for all young people, particularly those facing the greatest challenges.
The launch also marked the creation of the Friends of GenU Pakistan platform, which brings together businesses willing to invest in young people. Through support for skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and workplace learning, the platform will help more young people successfully move from education into employment.
