The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced that general elections in the region will be held on July 27, 2026.
The announcement was made by AJK Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal during a press conference in Muzaffarabad on Friday.
The chief election commissioner said the polls would be conducted under the supervision of Rangers and other security forces to ensure a peaceful voting process in light of the prevailing law and order situation.
According to the election schedule, the submission of nomination papers will begin on June 9 and continue until June 19, while the final list of contesting candidates will be published on June 27.
Ahead of the elections, the Election Commission has imposed a ban on new government appointments, transfers and postings across AJK to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
The commission has also barred the launch of new development schemes and projects during the election period in accordance with the election code of conduct.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government earlier announced summer vacations for all public and private educational institutions across the region.
According to an official notification, summer holidays will begin on June 8 in all government and private schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in AJK.
Under the schedule, educational institutions will remain closed during the vacation period and will reopen on August 9, 2026.
The decision applies to all educational institutes operating across Azad Jammu and Kashmir and has been taken in view of the summer season.
