Hungary stops issuing worker visas for these countries

Hungary

Hungary has stopped issuing worker visas for some non-European countries under a new reform.

The new government, which recently won the elections, plans to restrict visas to prevent a potential wage decline.

The countries that will no longer have access to the worker visa of Hungary are:

  • Philippines
  • Armenia
  • Georgia

Foreign workers already in the country will still be able to apply for permit extensions, while applications submitted before the new rules take effect will continue to be processed.

It is pertinent to mention that foreign workers account for around 2 per cent of Hungary’s workforce.

Hungary’s economy is a high-income, export-oriented market, though it currently faces challenges with high inflation. It struggles with a relatively low GDP per capita compared to the EU average, but benefits from low unemployment and a very affordable cost of living compared to other European countries.
