A presiding officer died after suffering a heart attack while performing election duties in the Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as teacher Ilyas Khaki, was serving at a polling station when he reportedly suffered a fatal cardiac arrest. Election officials and local authorities rushed to assist him, but he could not survive.
Following the completion of legal and administrative formalities, the body was shifted to Eidgah Astore for further arrangements.
Meanwhile, polling for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections is continuing peacefully in Constituency GBA-14 Astore-II. Strict security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth voting process.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan Raja Shahbaz Khan stated that polling across the region had been proceeding uninterrupted since 8:00 a.m. He said comprehensive security measures had been made for voters.
Raja Shahbaz Khan further noted that a large number of women voters were turning out at female polling stations across Gilgit-Baltistan. He said he had visited various polling stations and observed great enthusiasm among the public. He urged citizens to complete the electoral process peacefully and contribute to the development of the region through their participation.
