England secured a dominant 115-run victory over New Zealand at Lord’s, the Home of Cricket, marking their record 150th Test win.
Chasing a target of 254, New Zealand were bowled out for 138 in their second innings. Glenn Phillips top-scored with 44, while Devon Conway contributed 41, as the visitors struggled to build sustained partnerships. Notably, eight New Zealand batters failed to reach double figures, underlining England’s disciplined bowling performance.
The win adds another milestone to England’s Test cricket history, achieved on one of the sport’s most iconic grounds. England posted 140 in their first innings and 226 in the second to set up the win.
New Zealand have not won a Test at Lord’s since 1999. With this result, England takes a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
Devon Conway appeared a far cry from the player who scored a double century on his Test debut at this venue five years ago, struggling to find rhythm as he fought to stay at the crease. His 53-run partnership with Glenn Phillips was the second-highest stand of the match, but it ended abruptly when he edged a Ben Stokes delivery into the gully, where Jacob Bethell took a sharp, low catch.
Brydon Carse then made a decisive impact, bowling at times up to 90 mph (145 kph) despite a disrupted build-up following a concussion. He had Nathan Smith caught behind with his third ball, dismissed Kyle Jamieson with a chip to short midwicket, and shattered Matt Henry’s middle stump, while Phillips, who top-scored in the match with 78, was left stranded at the non-striker’s end.
