Trump says Israel and Iran must “Stop shooting”

US 'not satisfied' with Iran deal yet: Trump

The tensions between Israel and Iran seem to have quickly spiralled into a wider regional crisis, prompting US President Donald Trump to sound a loud appeal on his new social media outlet, Truth Social, on Monday: “Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting.”

His remarks come in a new series of military operations carried out by Israel, which also hit a petrochemical plant in southwestern Iran.

The action came after reports that Trump had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt all attacks on Lebanon.

Israeli officials said last night that several rounds of Iranian missiles were fired at Israeli territory, sounding air raid sirens in various parts of the country, including the northern city of Haifa.

As the tension escalated, the Israeli military said it had intercepted incoming projectiles.

The escalation was also connected to Israeli airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut in Lebanon.

The chairman of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters warned that if Israeli operations continued, it would lead to a “devastating war,” and that red lines had been crossed.

In response, Iran reportedly has launched a fifth round of missile strikes against Israel on the night of June 8, 2026, further escalating the tensions in the region.

The closure of the airspace in Qatar for some time after the strikes increased the instability in the region. Qatar’s temporary ban on flights after the strikes further extended the instability in the region.

In the interim, Iranian Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf claimed that the United States was only “listening to the language of power,” and that continuing the violence in Lebanon and Israeli actions proved the lack of “diplomatic restraint.”

One of Trump’s most prominent political moves was to call for an immediate ceasefire in the unfolding war, putting the president at the epicentre of renewed international pressure for de-escalation.
