After winning the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) elections 2026 by a large margin, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced the expected Chief Minister (CM) names.
The party leadership is in a continuous contact with the chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to get his final stance about the decision.
The most prominent name for GB CM is that of Amjad Hussain Advocate, who won from the constituency of GBA 1 Gilgit-1, and he is also the current President of PPP in GB.
The second name in the race to become GB CM is of Fida Muhammad Nashad, who is also the former speaker of the GB Assembly. He won the elections from the constituency of GBA 9 Skardu-3.
Next comes Syed Tauqeer Mehdi, who won from the constituency of GBA 8 Skardu-2. He is an emerging leader in PPP, who is also a strong candidate for the chief ministership.
Meanwhile, the leadership has also proposed the names of Muhammad Ali Akhtar, who won from the constituency of Nagar, and Syed Jalal Ali Shah, who won from Ghizer. He is son of the late PPP veteran leader Pir Karam Ali Shah.
Although a list of names has been proposed for the next GB CM, yet Amjad Hussain Advocate is seen as a strong candidate for the chief ministership in Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the media reports, the majority of the party leadership and political observers have already mentioned that Amjad Hussain Advocate will be the next chief minister of GB.
As per the results announced on June 8, 2026, PPP has won the elections in GB.
According to the Form 47 results, the Pakistan Peoples Party has secured a remarkable victory in GB, and is expected to form government in the province in the next coming days.
