The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) have warned about the flood expected to occur mostly in the areas of Punjab, KP and Sindh, during the monsoon rains.

PMD have warned that the upcoming monsoon season may bring uneven rainfall patterns, with risks of urban flooding, heat stress and water shortages in different parts of the country.

In its seasonal overview meeting for 2026, PMD officials said that rainfall between July and September is expected to be below normal in most regions.

However, officials cautioned that this does not remove the risk of flooding, particularly in urban centres during periods of heavy rain.

According to the forecast, areas including Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan are likely to receive less than average rainfall.

At the same time, higher-than-normal rainfall is expected in Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

PMD Director General (DG), Dr Muhammad Afzal, said that the reduced overall rainfall could affect agriculture and crop production.

He also warned that seasonal diseases could increase under changing weather conditions.

He added that despite the overall decrease in rainfall, the possibility of urban flooding remains, especially during short but intense rain spells in major cities across Punjab, Sindh and KP.

The department further said that temperatures are expected to remain above normal during the monsoon months, particularly in northern Punjab and western GB, raising the risk of heat stress in some areas.

Officials also warned that reduced rainfall in parts of the country could worsen water shortages. In contrast, heavier rainfall in northern regions could increase the risk of glacial lake outburst floods and flash flooding in mountain areas.

The officials of the PMD further stated that they are regularly monitoring the weather of Pakistan, and will immediately issue an advisory if any updates about the monsoon season take place.
