PSL expansion boosts PCB revenue as profits soar to Rs 7.5b in 2026

The expansion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) from six to eight teams has resulted in a major increase in revenue and profitability for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In 2026, PSL profits surged to Rs 7.5 billion, up significantly from Rs 2 billion recorded in 2025, highlighting the financial impact of the league’s expansion.

According to details presented by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat regarding the PSL’s income and expenditure, the league’s expansion in 2026 significantly improved its financial performance.

For PSL 2026 (Season 11), the PCB spent over Rs 2.6454 billion, while total revenue exceeded Rs 10.1952 billion. As a result, the PCB recorded a pre-tax profit of approximately Rs 7.5498 billion. The PCB’s share in the central revenue pool amounted to more than Rs 1.029 billion.

In comparison, the PCB made a profit of Rs 2 billion in PSL 2025 and Rs 2.46 billion in PSL 2024. Overall, the profit in 2026 was about Rs 5.48 billion higher than in 2025.

Most cricket experts believe that adding new teams to the PSL is a good decision as it will expand the player pool.

They stated that even with the addition of eight teams, it may take many years to discover new stars and that nothing happens overnight. They were part of the league from the beginning and stayed for 10 years. Because of them, first Multan Sultans and now the Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindi have been added.
