PDMA Punjab issues alert for strong winds rain

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has forecast widespread rain across the province from June 11 to June 13, warning of strong winds and possible hailstorms in several areas.

According to the PDMA, most districts of Punjab are likely to receive rainfall during this period, while some regions may also experience gusty winds and hail.

Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Layyah and Faisalabad, along with Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang and surrounding areas. Other districts, including Okara, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad, are also likely to receive showers.

The forecast further includes rain chances in Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Khushab, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kot Addu and Mandi Bahauddin.

In response to the weather alert, the PDMA has issued instructions to all commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province. Relevant departments have been directed to ensure preparations are in place and remain on alert to deal with any possible emergency.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast a severe heatwave across the country starting today, warning that weather conditions will remain extremely hot and dry in most plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar.

However, thunderstorms and rain are expected at isolated locations in Swat, Dir, Chitral and other upper districts.

The Met Office further predicted that temperatures may rise even further across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the coming days. In plain districts such as Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda and Dera Ismail Khan, temperatures could reach as high as 46°C.
