The City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has started installing Chief Minister Punjab QR Panic Buttons in public transport vehicles to improve passenger safety and security, following the vision of a safer Punjab.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, officially launched the campaign at Liberty Chowk by personally fitting QR Panic Buttons in rickshaws.
In the first phase of the initiative, over 100 rickshaws have been equipped with this safety feature, thanks to the support of the Awami Rickshaw Union.
During the event, the CTO mentioned that the QR Panic Button system would eventually be available in all buses, wagons, rickshaws, and taxis operating in Lahore. He noted that citizens could get QR Panic Buttons for free through the Public Safety App and the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) website.
Shirazi explained that the campaign aims not only to install the safety feature but also to raise awareness among commuters and transport operators about its use, benefits, and emergency response procedures.
He clarified that passengers could quickly alert the police and PSCA during emergencies by scanning the QR Panic Button.
This system allows for the immediate sharing of a passenger’s live location and vehicle information with law enforcement, ensuring a quick response to emergencies.
The CTO stated that CTPL would act swiftly on alerts received through the PSCA to guarantee commuter safety. He added that this initiative would greatly improve the safety of women, students, and millions of citizens who depend on public transport every day.
The QR Panic Buttons project is a collaborative effort between CTPL and PSCA, aimed at turning public transport in Lahore into a modern digital safety network and offering citizens safer, smarter, and more secure travel options.
