The US began military strikes against multiple targets in Iran on June 11, marking a significant target in Minab, Kish Island, and Sirik.
The operation started at around 02:15am according to Pakistan time.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were carried out in response to what they described as Iran’s continued and unprovoked aggression in the region.
Iranian state media reported explosions in several areas, and the air defence systems were activated in response to the recent attacks.
As per the Iranian media, the missile strikes have been reported on Iran’s Qeshm and Hengam islands.
Meanwhile, residents reported hearing multiple explosions in the port city of Gorgan, the Iranian news agency said.
Reports also suggested that explosions were heard near coastal areas and around strategic locations linked to maritime activity. The exact extent of the damage was not immediately clear.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fighter jets have reportedly begun flying over Tehran, while clashes between the US forces and the IRGC have been reported in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian news agencies.
Iran has strongly responded to the US air strikes by targeting the US base in the Iraqi city of Erbil. The Iranian media claims that the radar system has been targeted by the IRGC.
According to Iranian sources, missiles and drones were used to target US naval vessels near the Strait of Hormuz. The reports claim that the US fleet ships were struck.
Speaking from CENTCOM headquarters, US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth said the strikes were aimed at protecting American interests and ensuring the security of international shipping routes.
He said that the US forces would continue efforts to safeguard oil tankers and commercial vessels operating near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important maritime trade corridors.
Meanwhile, security concerns have spread across the region. Israeli authorities have reportedly placed the country on high alert amid fears that Iran could respond to the US attacks.
In neighbouring Iraq, the US Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert for American citizens, urging them to remain vigilant as regional tensions continue to rise.
Iran has not yet announced any military response, but officials have previously warned that any attack on the country would be met with retaliation.
