Ali Khamenei

Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is expected to be buried in July 2026, following his death in February.

He was assassinated at his office in the Israeli-US attacks on Iran. At the time, President Trump said, “He was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do.”

According to Iranian state media, on July 4 and 5, a farewell ceremony will be held in Tehran, followed by a funeral ceremony in Tehran on July 6, and in Qom on July 7.

Khamenei is to be buried in the shrine of Imam Reza in the city of Mashhad after another funeral ceremony there on July 9.

He has since been replaced by his son, Mojtaba.

Peace deal between Iran and US

Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif announced that a peace deal between Iran and the United States (US) is expected within 24 hours.

In a post on X, PM Sharif said, “We are closer to a peace deal than ever before. With finalisation likely expected in the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the deal immediately after, followed by technical-level talks next week.”

He thanked the US and Iran for their commitment during the talks, and those in the region for their support.
