Muharram holidays in Pakistan are expected in the last week of June.
According to reports, it is likely that 9th and 10th Muharram will fall on June 25th and 26th.
If 1st Muharram falls on June 17th, Ashura is expected to be observed on Friday, June 26th.
Hence, holidays are expected on these dates in Pakistan. Offices and educational institutions will remain closed.
However, there is no confirmation yet, as the final decision will be made when the moon is visible.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has yet to sit for the sighting of the Muharram moon.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is also a month of mourning, observed in particular by Shia Muslims worldwide, commemorating the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD, where, amongst many, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), Imam Husain, was martyred, and other family members were martyred or subjected to humiliation.
Last year, the first of Muharram was observed on June 27 (Friday).
