Work on the development of Pakistan’s Passport Mobile App has been accelerated, paving the way for the introduction of online passport renewal services in the near future.
The progress was reviewed during a meeting chaired by Director General Immigration and Passports, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, which focused on the digitalisation of passport services across the country.
The meeting, held at Passport and Immigration Headquarters, was also attended by officials from National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Participants discussed plans to establish passport counters at NADRA centres nationwide to improve public access to services.
The DG Immigration and Passports directed officials to ensure the timely completion of all ongoing projects.
During the briefing, officials informed the meeting that development of the Passport Mobile App is progressing rapidly. Once launched, the app will enable citizens to renew passports online and submit passport applications through a digital platform.
The meeting also reviewed plans to expand home delivery services, allowing citizens to receive their passports at their doorstep.
Officials said the use of modern technology would usher in a new era of transparency and convenience in passport services. The establishment of passport counters at NADRA centres is also expected to provide multiple services under one roof, making the process easier for the public.
Cashless passport payment app
Work has also started on a new cashless payment system in the immigration and passport department. Citizens will soon be able to pay passport and immigration fees through a mobile app.
Muhammad Ali Randhawa said that digital payments will make service delivery faster and more transparent.
The private bank and immigration officials also agreed on a digital payment mechanism. Efforts are also going on to achieve the goal of a cashless system in Pakistan.
