The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning over the risk of landslides and flooding in various parts of Pakistan from June 22, cautioning that residential areas could be submerged and traffic on major highways may face disruptions.
According to an NDMA spokesperson, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are among the region’s most at-risk. Heavy rainfall could trigger landslides, sending rocks, mud, and debris from mountainous areas into nearby low-lying communities.
The authority warned that the situation may pose serious threats to residents, infrastructure, and transport networks, urging the public to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories.
Several key routes, including the Karakoram Highway, could be affected by landslides. Areas such as Jaglot, Skardu, Shigar, and Hussainiabad have been identified as particularly vulnerable.
The risk of landslides also remains high in various parts of Azad Kashmir, including Muzaffarabad, Kel, and Sharda. Similar conditions may develop in Chitral, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Lohargali in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The NDMA further warned of possible flooding in rivers across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and Balochistan, urging residents and local authorities to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures.
