The Punjab government has now introduced a juvenile motorcycle permit facility for youth between the ages of 16-18 years, under the vision of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz.
Traffic officials have said that this facility was set up to promote safe driving among the youth. It also encourages them to follow traffic rules.
Under the initiative, young individuals aged 16 to 18 years become eligible to get a Juvenile Permit upon meeting the specified criteria.
The permit fee is set at Rs1000 for those who are 16 years old. It stands at Rs500 for applicants aged 17 to 18 years.
Lahore’s Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, has said that youth holding Juvenile Permits would be prohibited from riding motorcycles at speeds exceeding 60 kilometres per hour.
He mentioned that obtaining parental or guardian consent is important to ensure the safety of young riders. It would also promote adherence to legal standards.
The Lahore CTO added that applicants should come with a parent or legal guardian. They should also present their Smart Card and Form-B.
Parents are required to submit a recent copy of their child’s CNIC.
He noted that this facility aims to encourage responsible driving behaviors among the youth.
It also promotes compliance with traffic rules across Punjab.
