A sedition case has been registered against Khawaja Mehran, a central member of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), over baseless allegations against Pakistan’s Armed Forces.
Case registered under sedition charges against Khawaja Mehran, a member of the banned JAAC, for allegedly attempting to create a rift within the Pakistan Armed Forces in line with an Indian agenda.
According to sources, Khawaja Mehran targeted the Pakistan Army in his speech and unnecessarily criticised national institutions. Following this, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government took immediate action and registered a sedition case against him.
It is worth mentioning here that JAAC had called for a state-wide strike, a long march toward Muzaffarabad, and a siege of the Legislative Assembly beginning on June 9.
According to sources, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir government’s Home Department has declared the JAAC illegal under its constitutional authority.
Subsequently, after reviewing content circulating on social media, the police at Sawthana Police Station, Civil Secretariat, Muzaffarabad, registered a case against Khawaja Mehran Arshad, a core member of the banned committee and son of Khawaja Arshad, a resident of Dadial.
Sources stated that while addressing participants of a sit-in at Drek, Rawalakot, on June 14, Khawaja Mehran Arshad allegedly made statements against state institutions, government employees, and particularly the Pakistan Army.
The sources further alleged that he used abusive language against employees of the State of Jammu and Kashmir and attempted to incite the public against the state.
Taking notice of the video of his speech, the Azad Kashmir government ordered legal action against Khawaja Mehran Arshad under Section 124A of the Penal Code. Following these directions, the Azad Kashmir Police initiated legal proceedings against the accused.
