Karachi faces gas outage as SSGC begins emergency repair work

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in various areas of Karachi due to repair work.

According to a statement issued by the SSGC spokesperson, a 4-inch diameter gas pipeline was damaged during the K-IV pipeline project in front of the Expo Centre on University Road.

Repair work on the affected line has been initiated immediately and is expected to be completed within the next few hours. The statement further said that gas supply will remain temporarily suspended in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block D-13 and PIB Colony during the repair work.

The spokesperson added that SSGC teams are working to complete the repair as quickly as possible, and every effort is being made to minimise the duration of the gas shutdown to ensure maximum convenience for consumers. The organisation has also apologised for the inconvenience caused to consumers during this time.

On the other hand, new oil and gas reserves have been discovered in Pakistan, which are expected to help meet the country’s energy needs and reduce its dependence on imported fuel.

According to reports, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has discovered a significant new oil and gas reserve at the “Bobby Deep-1” well located in the Sanghar district of Sindh province.

This marks OGDCL’s first major hydrocarbon discovery in the Bobby Vidhamar mining lease area and is being described as an important development for the country’s energy sector.
