England ready to host 139th Wimbledon championships

The 139th edition of the Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam tournament of the tennis calendar, is set to begin on June 29 in England.

The prestigious two-week event will take place at the iconic All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, where the world’s top players will compete for one of the sport’s most coveted titles.

Wimbledon, renowned for its rich tradition and grass-court competition, is expected to attract global attention as leading ATP and WTA stars battle for championship glory.

According to the Wimbledon organising committee, preparations for the successful staging of the tournament are in full swing. The championships will be played on grass courts and will feature some of the world’s top tennis players competing for the coveted titles.

The tournament will include men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles events. The 2026 Championships will mark the 139th edition of the men’s tournament and the 132nd edition of the women’s tournament.

In the men’s singles event, renowned Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner will defend his Wimbledon title. In the women’s singles competition, Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek enters the tournament as the reigning champion after winning the 2025 title.

In the men’s doubles event, the British pair of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool will aim to defend their title. In the women’s doubles competition, Russian player Veronika Kudermetova and her Belgian partner Elise Mertens will also be looking to retain their crown.

The third Grand Slam tournament of the year will run from June 29 to July 12, spanning 14 days of world-class tennis action.
