Federal govt lodges protest with BBC Urdu over AJK fake news report

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has lodged a strong official protest and formal complaint with BBC Urdu over the publication of fake news regarding Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the complaint, the ministry said the report was based on unverified and uncorroborated allegations while ignoring official facts and on-record statements. It added that this is not the first such instance, saying the repeated publication of unverified claims has become a concerning trend, and urged corrective measures.

On the other hand, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Liaqat Ali Malik, stated that false and fake news is one of the biggest challenges of the modern era. He urged the public to verify any information before sharing it, as malicious elements are spreading misinformation and false propaganda regarding the situation in Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference, he made it clear that all entry and exit routes of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are fully operational. The movement of vehicles and people is continuing normally, with no disruptions reported.

The IG Police rejected reports of route closures in AJK, stating that all major transport routes in the region are open and that people can travel as usual. He also expressed concerns over a BBC-Urdu report on the matter, saying that international media should thoroughly verify facts before publishing news.

He stated that some miscreants are spreading misleading information and baseless propaganda about the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to sow anxiety and misunderstanding among the public.

He added that fabricated narratives are also being created using modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, and urged citizens to adopt a responsible approach.
