Countrywide 9th Muharram mourning processions conclude amid high security

9th Muharram mourning processions were held across the country with devotion and reverence, as strict security arrangements were put in place to ensure the safety of participants.

Islamabad

The central procession in Islamabad for the day was taken out after Zuhr prayers from Markazi Isna Ashari Imambargah in G-6/2.

The route includes Luqman Hakeem Road, G-6 Service Road, Saddar Road, Streets 33 and 40 in G-6/1, Municipal Road, Melody Chowk, Shuhada Chowk, Aabpara Police Station, Polyclinic, and then back to Luqman Hakeem Road.

Thousands of mourners and devotees participated in the procession in memory of the supreme sacrifice made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his family for Islam. The gathering was ended at the same place later in the night after passing through its designated route.

Lahore

The main 9th Muharram procession in Lahore started from Pando Street, Islampura. It passed through Siraj Building, Islampura Chowk, Neeli Bagh Chowk, and other designated routes, reaching Imambargah Khema-e-Sadat via Old Anarkali, the AG Office, and Baba Moj Darya Road.

After the mourning gathering and Maghrib prayers at Khema-e-Sadat, the procession resumed and later returned to Pando Street, where it concluded.

A second major procession, the Shabih-e-Zuljinnah procession, was taken out from Imambargah Qasr-e-Batool, Shadman, following its traditional routes. A large number of mourners participated, and foolproof security arrangements were in place.

Quetta

The main 9th Muharram procession in Quetta reached Imambargah Nasir-ul-Izza via its designated routes and concluded there.

The routes were sealed with trucks and barbed wire, while police, Frontier Corps, and Balochistan Constabulary personnel were deployed for security. According to officials, around 8,000 security personnel were deployed along the route and surrounding areas. Surveillance was also conducted through Safe City cameras and drones.

Due to security concerns, mobile phone services were suspended in seven districts of the province, including Quetta, until 8 p.m., and Section 144 was also imposed.

Karachi

After the central mourning gathering addressed by Khatib-e-Pakistan Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi at Nishtar Park, the main procession was led by the Pak Haideri Scouts. It followed designated routes and concluded at Hussainiya Irani Imambargah, Kharadar.

Meanwhile, mourners offered Zuhr prayers in front of Imambargah Ali Raza on MA Jinnah Road. The administration sealed surrounding roads and streets with containers, and shops and markets along the route were closed for three days.

Hyderabad

The main 9th Muharram procession in Hyderabad was organised under the Guldasta Akbar Association and started from Latifabad No. 5. A pre-procession gathering was also held. The procession followed its traditional routes and was scheduled to conclude in the evening.

It included Alam Abbas, Shabih-e-Zuljinnah, Shabih-e-Taboot, Shabih-e-Jhoola-e-Asghar, and other symbols. Strict security measures were implemented, with police, Rangers, and scouts deployed.

Peshawar

The main 9th Muharram procession in Peshawar started from Hussainiya Hall, Saddar. It proceeded along its designated routes and was set to conclude at the same Imambargah. More than 10,000 police personnel were deployed to ensure security.

Sujawal

The mourning procession in Sujawal started from Kehri Imambargah and was scheduled to end at Imambargah Hussaini via traditional routes.

Sabeels were arranged along the route for mourners, and strict security arrangements were made. SSP Sujawal Alina Rajpar personally supervised the security arrangements.

CCTV cameras were installed at various points in the city, and the procession was monitored from a central control room in the main bazaar.
