Germany’s World Cup journey came to a heartbreaking end after they lost to Paraguay in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in their Round of 32 match in Foxborough on Monday.
This was very interesting, as Germany lost a penalty shootout at the World Cup for the first time.
Paraguay took the lead in the game before half time to give one of football’s biggest countries a surprise.
Germany had a corner kick which they failed to take properly. After that Matias Galarza swung a cross into the penalty area, which Julio Enciso, who was left wide open, shot the ball into the goal.
As much as Germany tried they were not able to find a chance to score a goal in the first half and went into the break trailing one goal behind Paraguay.
Germany, however, got their act together in the second half and scored the equaliser in the 54th minute.

Florian Wirtz passed the ball to Kai Havertz who headed the ball into the far corner of the net to make it 1-1.
After this both sides kept chasing a goal to put themselves in the lead, but Paraguay’s goalkeeper, Orlando Gill, saved a few brilliant goals to keep his side in the game.
Germany thought they had won the game in extra time but a video review (VAR) ruled the goal out after one of Germany’s players fouled the goalkeeper.
There were no more goals scored in this match, and it was settled in a penalty shootout, in which each team’s players tried to make penalty kicks in turn.
Gill was Paraguay’s hero as he saved two German penalties. Although Paraguay missed two chances to secure victory, Jose Canale calmly converted the decisive spot-kick after Tah blasted Germany’s final penalty over the crossbar.
The loss capped Germany’s first World Cup knockout round appearance since winning the World Cup in 2014.
