England thrashed India by 125 runs in the third T20 International at Trent Bridge, handing the visitors their biggest-ever defeat by runs in T20Is and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
After being put into bat, England posted a competitive 201-7 in their 20 overs, thanks to a match-winning 70 off 44 balls from Phil Salt. Sam Curran remained unbeaten on 41 from 24 deliveries, while Jos Buttler provided early momentum with a quickfire 36 off 21 balls.
India’s bowlers briefly fought back through Prince Yadav (2-30) and Harshit Rana (2-40), but England crossed the 200-run mark with late contributions from Will Jacks and the lower order.
In reply, India’s batting lineup collapsed spectacularly, with the visitors bowled out for just 76 in 11.4 overs, registering their heaviest defeat by runs in T20 International history.
Fast bowlers Josh Tongue (4-28) and Jofra Archer (3-29) ripped through India’s top order before spinner Adil Rashid (2-14) wrapped up the innings.
Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, playing only his second international match, briefly entertained with two towering sixes during his 13 off five balls before gloving an Archer bouncer behind the wicket. Ishan Kishan also scored 13, but no other Indian batter managed to build a meaningful partnership.
India lost five wickets for 52 runs inside the first five overs as Abhishek Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and others fell attempting aggressive strokes against England’s disciplined bowling attack.
Speaking after the match, England captain Harry Brook praised his side’s execution, saying the team’s communication and planning were “perfect” and that the bowlers executed their strategy brilliantly on a challenging surface.
India captain Shreyas Iyer described his team’s performance as “atrocious”, admitting the heavy defeat was unacceptable. He said India failed to adapt to the conditions, lost early wickets and executed their plans poorly with both bat and ball.
The comprehensive victory gives England a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, with the fourth T20I scheduled to be played in Bristol on Thursday.
