Two prominent local political figures, Councillor Raja Jameel Ahmed and Raja Rashid Altaf, joined the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) along with hundreds of their supporters during a public gathering in New City, LA-3 Mirpur on Sunday, boosting the election campaign of assembly candidate Raja Tasleem Anjum.
The two leaders formally announced their support for Anjum in the presence of party workers and local residents, with IPP representatives describing the move as a significant boost to the party’s position in the constituency ahead of the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
Party workers welcomed the new entrants with traditional ceremonies, presenting ceremonial turbans to Raja Jameel Ahmed and Raja Rashid Altaf, while supporters showered flower petals to celebrate their joining.
Addressing the gathering, Raja Tasleem Anjum said the growing number of people joining the IPP reflected increasing public confidence in the party’s vision of positivity, dignity and public service. He added that the support of influential local leaders would further strengthen the party’s campaign in LA-3 Mirpur.
Political campaigning has intensified across Azad Jammu and Kashmir as parties continue to seek endorsements from influential local figures ahead of the elections.
