Pakistan is in talks with the world’s leading OTT streaming platforms, including Netflix, to form long-term partnerships to promote Pakistani films and TV dramas abroad, Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal announced.

The minister said in a post on X that Pakistani productions are very popular and appreciated by people around the world and the creative and cultural industry is one of the main pillars of the government’s export strategy of Uraan Pakistan.

He said the regional politics have created a level of obscurity for Pakistani content on major streaming platforms stating that it deserves to be seen on global platforms.

The government is trying to solve this problem by talking to Netflix and other international streaming service providers to ensure fair representation and provide sustainable opportunities for Pakistani creators, Ahsan Iqbal said.

He further said that the project aims to boost cultural exports, and would also benefit the local filmmakers and producers in reaching out to the growing audience.

In addition to talks with global platforms, the minister stated that the government is also working on creating an independent OTT streaming platform for Pakistani stories to be promoted globally.

The proposed platform is expected to offer another opportunity to promote Pakistani films, dramas and other creations and minimise the reliance upon foreign services.

The government sees the two strategies of enhancing access to international streaming options and launching an OTT platform as conducive to the growth of Pakistan’s creative economy, which will help make the entertainment industry more visible globally.
