Petrol prices are lower in Pakistan as compared to Bangladesh

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said that, according to a KPMG study, petrol prices in Pakistan are lower than those in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Türkiye.

A meeting of the committee constituted by the Prime Minister was held under the chairmanship of the Federal Minister for Petroleum to discuss ways to analyse petroleum products in line with global market trends.

According to a statement, the committee recommended that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) publish daily ex-plate prices on its website. It said making these prices public would provide consumers with a transparent benchmark for price determination.

The meeting also agreed that the Petroleum Price Stabilisation Fund should operate under a transparent system free from discretionary decision-making.

All members supported the digitisation of the oil supply chain and stressed the need to improve transparency across the sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Ali Pervaiz Malik said the renewed concerns over the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz had created uncertainty in global energy markets.

He added that, according to the KPMG study, petrol prices in Pakistan remain lower than those in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Türkiye.
