The prices of roti and naan have increased in Lahore, Pakistan.
The United Nanbai Association has announced another increase in the prices of roti and naan in Lahore, citing rising flour and operating costs, while the district administration has warned it will take action against unauthorised price hikes.
The association said a simple roti will now cost Rs25, while naan will be sold for Rs35, following an increase in the price of a 20kg flour bag to Rs2,400. It also said the price of fine flour had risen to Rs12,000.
Association representatives said higher flour prices, increased LPG costs and rising packaging expenses had made it impossible to sell roti at the government-notified price of Rs16.
They urged the government to begin negotiations within three days, warning that tandoor owners would shut down their businesses if their demands were not addressed.
The Lahore district administration reiterated that the officially notified prices remain in force and said action would be taken against anyone charging above the approved rates.
The latest increase follows an earlier revision by the association, when the price of roti was raised from Rs14 to Rs20, while naan was fixed at Rs30.
Meanwhile, tandoor owners in several parts of Karachi have also increased the price of roti by Rs5, with customers now paying Rs25 instead of Rs20.
