The government of Pakistan has issued an important advisory for the beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) regarding their digital wallet payments.

The BISP advised the beneficiaries on the transfer and withdrawal of quarterly financial assistance through its newly introduced digital wallet system.

According to BISP, beneficiaries will receive an SMS notification once their quarterly payment has been credited to their digital wallet by the designated bank.

A second SMS will be sent after the funds have been withdrawn, providing details of the amount credited and the amount collected.

The programme said the new system is designed to improve transparency and enable beneficiaries to keep track of their payments more effectively.

BISP urged recipients to carefully review the transaction details received via SMS. It said that if a retailer deducts money unlawfully or fails to pay the full amount, beneficiaries should use the SMS as proof when reporting the matter and claiming their complete payment.

The programme also advised beneficiaries to remain vigilant and take the necessary steps to ensure they receive the full amount to which they are entitled.

How to check BISP digital wallet payment status

BISP said beneficiaries can verify their payment status through the government’s official 8171 verification system.

Those with internet access can check their payment by visiting the 8171 web portal, entering their 13-digit Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number, completing the security verification and submitting the request. The portal will display their eligibility and latest payment status.

Alternatively, beneficiaries can send their 13-digit CNIC number via SMS to 8171 using the mobile number registered in their name. They will receive a reply confirming their eligibility and payment details.

People facing difficulties with online verification can visit their nearest BISP or Ehsaas payment centre with their original CNIC, where officials will verify their records and provide updated payment information.

The government has advised beneficiaries to use only the official 8171 web portal and SMS service to verify payments and warned them not to share their CNIC details with unauthorised individuals to protect themselves from fraud.
