A newly section of the Faizabad Interchange has been opened for traffic after the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) completed the reconstruction of the slip road and installed new traffic signboards to improve traffic flow.
Chairman of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team Punjab and MPA Raja Hanif Advocate inaugurated the newly completed section, lauding the RDA for completing the project within the approved timeline while maintaining quality standards.
The rehabilitation project was launched on March 6, 2026, with an approved cost of Rs15.49 million. Following the completion of construction work, the RDA has formally handed over the project for public use.
Speaking at the inauguration, Raja Hanif said the upgraded slip road and newly installed signboards would help ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety and provide a smoother commuting experience for motorists.
He added that the Punjab government remains committed to improving urban infrastructure and will continue investing in road and transport projects to facilitate the public across Rawalpindi.
On the other hand, Murree City Traffic Police announced that Murree-Rawalpindi Kashmir Road will be closed for five days starting from Tuesday midnight for maintenance and construction work on the road.
The closing is scheduled to start at 12:00 am on 15 July 2026, and will be in effect until 20 July 2026, according to an official traffic advisory.
During this time, traffic will be rerouted to other areas to enable the work to be done on the road which will enhance road safety and conditions.
According to the advisory, the closure will be in force on the Murree-Rawalpindi Kashmir Road between Bansra Gali and Barori Tak.
Consequently, the commuters using the area are likely to see shifts in the volume of traffic and should plan for alternate commuting options.
In order to reduce the inconvenience to the travellers, they have been asked to use Murree Expressway as the alternate route until the completion of the work.
The diversion has been designed to help ensure smooth traffic flow and alleviate congestion on nearby streets, traffic officials said.
The Murree Traffic Police has also called upon the travellers to assist the police and abide by the instructions of traffic wardens who have been deployed at diversion points and affected areas while travelling to the Murree area.
The compliance with traffic instructions will help in maintaining the order and no unnecessary delay will be caused to the traffic during the closure period, officials said.
If any kind of urgent assistance is required or traffic-related information is needed, commuters can dial the Murree Traffic Control Room (051-9269200).
Authorities have asked the public to make their travel arrangements ahead of time, have extra travel time if needed and be patient as maintenance is carried out.
Construction and maintenance work are set to be finished and the road is expected to reopen on July 20 when it is considered safe to allow the road to be used for normal traffic.
