Germany has annouced new nursing recruitment jobs for qualified foreign nurses, offering Pakistani healthcare professionals a chance to work abroad through recognised qualifications, language training, and other employment pathways.
Pakistanis seeking employment overseas now have a significant opportunity to work in Germany’s healthcare sector. According to Pakistan’s Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE), Germany is facing a serious shortage of trained nursing staff due to its ageing population and increasing healthcare needs.
Eligibility criteria for the positions
According to the information shared by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE), Pakistani applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Hold a valid nursing diploma or nursing degree.
- Get educational and professional qualifications officially recognised by German authorities.
- Meet all employment conditions set by Germany.
- Have German language proficiency at B2 level and provide a language certificate.
- Obtain a professional nursing licence before working permanently in Germany.
If these standards are not met by the applicants, another path to apply for the position, making the recognition process quicker and less costly are:
- Pass a knowledge examination, or complete an adaptation/training programme.
- Submit a medical certificate confirming good physical and mental health.
- Provide proof of good character, no criminal record.
- Obtain a German residence permit or work visa (required for Pakistani citizens).
- Candidates whose qualifications are not yet fully recognized can apply for a Recognition Visa to complete the recognition process in Germany.
- Eligible applicants may also use Germany’s Recognition Partnership or Opportunity Card schemes to enter Germany
Germany also offers routes such as the Recognition Partnership and the Opportunity Card, allowing eligible applicants to travel to Germany, complete the recognition process, and search for suitable employment.
While citizens of EU countries, Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland do not require a work visa. Applicants from Pakistan and other non-EU countries must obtain a residence permit. German authorities have also clarified that the EU Blue Card does not apply to nursing jobs.
Germany’s government and healthcare institutions are placing greater focus on hiring international nurses to support hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, and home-care services, where their duties include caring for patients, maintaining medical records, following treatment plans, assisting healthcare teams, and helping patients with everyday needs such as hygiene, nutrition, and safety.
