2027 World Cup format could bring more Pakistan-India clashes

World Cup 2027 Pakistan-India

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed a new plan for the ODI World Cup 2027, which is to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

In this new setup, there’s a chance of multiple India-Pakistan match and it is believed to be the biggest and most popular game in the cricket world.

The ICC has revealed that the 2027 World Cup will be a different format, with 14 teams taking part in the event.

The new method will have the three lowest ranked teams from the 14 qualified teams go into the preliminary round, with only the top one advancing to the next round.

After that, the main stage will consist of 12 teams, which will be divided into two groups, with six teams in each group.

The “Super Six” stage will not exist after the group stage. Rather, a “Super Seven” level will be created.

During this round all teams will play more important games, but there will be no quarter-finals in this World Cup. That is, there will not be a second knockout round in the tournament.

The ICC claims this new format is designed to make the tournament more exciting, competitive and meaningful.

The governing body believes this will minimise the number of matches which don’t have a significant impact on the tournament, and maximise the significance of each match.

With the new format, more matches will take place in the group stage as well as the Super Seven stage and there is a possibility of multiple India–Pakistan encounters, if both teams manage to qualify for the next stage.
