Pakistan’s star leg-spinner Yasir Shah, aged 39, is thinking about retiring from international cricket soon.

In a recent interview with private media, he said he will not play domestic cricket this season and will make a final decision about the retirement after talking to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“God willing, I will finalise my decision after meeting with the PCB,” Yasir shared.

Yasir Shah is one of Pakistan’s best Test bowlers. He played 48 Test matches and took 244 wickets with an average of 31.38.

He was especially strong in the South Asian condition’s especially in UAE, where Pakistan played home games for many years.

There, he grabbed 116 wickets at an excellent average of 24.56.

Yasir Shah also holds a special record, he reached 200 Test wickets faster than anyone, in just 33 matches.

His last game for Pakistan was a Test against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2022.

He played his final ODI in 2019 against England.

In shorter formats, Yasir took 24 wickets in 25 ODIs at an average of 47.91 and played two T20i’s without taking a wicket.

“They are doing well and won their last two T20 matches. Our prayers are with them,” he said while taking on Pakistan’s current team.

Moreover, he supports Muhammad Rizwan, who lost the ODI captaincy and was dropped from T20s earlier.

“Players always try to perform for Pakistan. The team supports any captain the selectors choose,” he added.

He explained his own drop from the team was not because of bad form. “My performances were good. I had a knee injury before, but they thought it came back. I offered a fitness test, but no clear reason was given,” Yasir said.

Fans will remember Yasir Shah for his amazing leg spin spells in tests particularly those which he delivered at lords back in 2016 test series.

If Yasir Shah officially announces his retirement in the coming days, Pakistan will lose a true match winner, and fans will remember him as one of the finest spin bowlers the country has ever produced.
