The concert of Abida Parveen and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at a charity event has been cancelled today due to rain in Islamabad.
The event, which was scheduled to take place on September 12 at the Sports Complex Islamabad, was organised as a fundraising initiative in support of Prem Nagar: The Land of Love, a humanitarian project aimed at supporting vulnerable and underprivileged communities.
The event was organised in association with Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, a Pakistani parliamentarian and politician, and Prem Kumar Vankwani, his elder brother.
The organisers had planned an evening bringing together sports, music and humanitarian work, with the proceeds from ticket sales intended to support welfare projects for special children, orphans, senior citizens, vulnerable women and underprivileged communities.
One of the main attractions of the event was the live performances by two of Pakistan’s best-known Sufi music artists.
Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, widely known for his Sufi and classical music performances, was scheduled to perform alongside Abida Parveen, one of the country’s most prominent voices in Sufi music.
The organisers had described the event as an opportunity to experience the two musical legends on a single stage while supporting a humanitarian cause.
The programme was also set to include sports contests for special children, followed by an awards ceremony recognising their achievements.
The organisers said the event was intended to highlight stories of courage, inclusion and achievement, while creating an environment where special children and their accomplishments could be celebrated.
Alongside the sports activities and musical performances, the event was expected to feature family entertainment, food courts, activity zones and photo opportunities.
At the centre of the event was its charitable purpose.
According to the event’s organisers, ticket proceeds were intended to contribute towards welfare initiatives under Prem Nagar: The Land of Love, with a focus on people facing social and economic vulnerability.
The organisers had presented the gathering as more than a concert, describing it as a platform to promote love, hope and inclusion while raising support for humanitarian projects.
However, the planned September 12 programme will not go ahead following the cancellation caused by rain.
