The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert, warning of below-normal rainfall and above-normal temperatures across most parts of the country from August to October 2026.
The forecast indicates that several regions may experience reduced rainfall during the period, while higher-than-average temperatures could increase the risk of heatwaves and weather-related challenges.
According to weather forecasters, rainfall is expected to remain below normal in many areas of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan during August. Deficient rainfall is also likely in parts of northeastern Punjab, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to receive near-normal rainfall.
The report stated that temperatures are likely to remain above normal across the country in August, increasing the risk of severe heatwaves and heat stress, particularly in the plains of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan.
Experts have warned that reduced rainfall could pose a serious threat to major Kharif crops. The demand for irrigation water is expected to rise significantly due to concerns over water shortages in Punjab and Sindh, which could negatively impact the agriculture sector.
Meanwhile, high temperatures in northern regions may accelerate glacier melting, increasing the risks of glacial lake outburst floods, landslides, and flash floods.
Concerns have also been raised about possible flooding in the mountain rivers of southern Punjab and Balochistan. Additionally, urban flooding may occur in major cities if heavy rainfall is accompanied by thunderstorms.
The Meteorological Department further warned that strong winds, dust storms, thunderstorms, and hailstorms could damage crops in various areas. Residents of low-lying and flood-prone regions have been advised to take necessary precautionary measures.
