Actor Muneeb Butt declared innocent in kidnapping case

An anti terrorism court was informed that actor Muneeb Butt has been declared innocent in a short-term kidnapping and ransom case after police completed their investigation.

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) submitted a seven-page charge sheet before the administrative Anti-Terrorism Court, stating that Muneeb Butt was found to have no involvement in the alleged crime.

According to the charge sheet, three suspects, Shahid Sattar, Wazir Muhammad and Muhammad Saleem have been arrested in connection with the case. Meanwhile, Muneeb Butt, Mohsin Rajpar and Abdul Rehman Chandio have been shown on bail.

Police told the court that the investigation found no evidence linking Butt to the offence, leading investigators to declare him innocent.

The case relates to the alleged short-term kidnapping of complainant Muhammad Mutal from Shahrah-e-Faisal, where the suspects are accused of stealing cryptocurrency worth Rs2.494 million.

According to investigators, the suspects allegedly released the victim in Karachi’s Korangi Industrial Area after taking the ransom before fleeing the scene.

Police said further legal proceedings in the case are continuing before the court.

Earlier, Muneeb Butt had appeared before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi after surrendering in a case involving serious allegations. His legal team confirmed his appearance before the court.

Prior to this, the Islamabad High Court granted him interim protective bail, which prevented his arrest until the next hearing. His lawyers argued for urgent relief, and the court approved the request, allowing him to travel safely to Karachi.

The case includes allegations of short-term kidnapping and financial fraud. Authorities have linked Muneeb Butt to both charges, although the exact details of the kidnapping allegation are still under judicial review. Legal experts describe it as a brief detention related to financial disputes rather than a long-term abduction.

The Karachi ATC later confirmed his interim bail and set a bond for his release. Muneeb Butt completed all legal requirements, including submission of surety bonds, and was not sent into custody. He left the court after the proceedings.
