The vice-chancellor (VC) of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University, Lyari, Professor Dr Syed Hussain Mehdi, resigned from his post. He submitted his resignation yesterday.
Why did the vice-chancellor resign?
According to the details, VC Syed Hussain Mehdi submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister (CM) of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, stating that he was facing constant pressure from a group of employees.
In his resignation, the VC noted that protests and demands by employees with political motives had created pressure on the administration.
He stated that demands for the Registrar’s resignation were being made through employee pressure.
Further, he added that administrative decisions should be based on the law rather than such pressure.
The VC remarked that if decisions were made under employee pressure, it would set a new precedent for administrative affairs at the university.
He added that running the university had become difficult due to constant pressure and obstacles.
He stated that, under the current circumstances, it is difficult to effectively safeguard the university’s interests.
Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal VC
Previously, the VC of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal reportedly survived what the university administration described as a violent and potentially fatal attack, after staff members intervened to protect him.
According to the university administration, PSF activists allegedly broke through doors and attacked the VC, while other administrative officers were also assaulted.
The attackers reportedly used sticks and stones and damaged doors, windows and other government property.
Delay in VC appointment at Quaid-i-Azam University
Recently, there was a consecutive two-month delay in the appointment of the VC of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad. It reportedly caused administrative problems on the campus.
As per the officials of the university, currently, there is no one to address the matters of students, faculty, and financial affairs of the institution.
The QAU staff said that there is not even an acting VC present at the moment in order to tackle this difficult situation.
