The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially registered Bigo Live and Likee in Pakistan.
The move is expected to improve the monitoring of online content and make sure that these digital platforms follow local laws.
According to the details, the registration of both platforms has been completed under Bigo Service Pakistan Private Limited.
Why has the PTA registered these platforms?
The PTA said the registration was carried out under the Illegal Online Content Removal and Blocking Rules 2021 and the country’s legal framework.
The authority said the step would help improve its cooperation with Bigo. It is also expected to make the system for monitoring online content more effective.
What does this mean for social media users?
The registration is expected to encourage the responsible use of social media platforms in Pakistan. It will also help in making sure that these platforms follow the country’s laws.
The PTA said the move would strengthen cooperation between the authority and the two platforms.
The authority also repeated its commitment to working with digital platforms. It said it would continue to focus on better communication, transparency and cooperation.
Has TikTok been banned in Pakistan?
PTA stated the viral notice being shared online is fake. It also advised people not to believe or share unverified information.
The clarification came today after a document claiming that TikTok had been banned across Pakistan began spreading on social media.
In a post on X, PTA stated, “Islamabad (5th November, 2026): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has noted that a fake notification is circulating on social media regarding an alleged ban on TikTok in Pakistan.”
“PTA clarifies that no such notification has been issued, and the circulating information is false and misleading,” it further added.
“The public is advised not to share or rely on unverified information circulating on social media. Citizens should obtain authentic information only through PTA’s official website and verified social media platforms,” it added.
