Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima has clarified that citizens can receive the government’s Rs100-per-litre petrol subsidy even if the motorcycle or car they use is not registered in their own name.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Federal Ministers Attaullah Tarar and Ali Pervaiz Malik, Shaza Fatima briefed the media on the procedure and key features of the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme.
She said the government launched the programme to provide relief to low-income citizens following a rise in petroleum prices caused by the changing global situation and conflict in the region.
Under the scheme, motorcyclists and owners of vehicles with engines up to 800cc will receive a Rs100-per-litre subsidy on petrol.
Motorcyclists can receive a subsidy of Rs500 on five litres of petrol once a week, subject to a monthly limit of 20 litres.
Owners of 800cc vehicles can receive a Rs1,000 subsidy on 10 litres of petrol every 10 days, with a monthly limit of 30 litres.
Motorcycles up to 15 years old and800cc vehicles up to 20 years old will qualify for the programme.
How to register
Citizens can register for the scheme by sending an SMS to 9771 from their mobile phones.
Applicants will need to provide their name, CNIC number, vehicle or motorcycle registration number, the first letter of their province — such as “P” for Punjab — and the registration date.
Vehicle ownership condition removed
Shaza Fatima clarified that the vehicle or motorcycle does not have to be registered in the applicant’s own name to qualify for the subsidy.
However, the SIM card used to send the registration SMS must be registered in the applicant’s own name and linked to their CNIC.
After completing registration, applicants will need to send “TOK” to 9771 to receive a token code.
The minister clarified that petrol cannot be provided against another person’s token number.
