Bushra Bibi's daughter files petition against Adiala Jail administration

Former First Lady Bushra Bibi’s daughter, Mubashara Sheikh, has filed a petition in the Sessions Court against the Adiala Jail administration, alleging negligence, mistreatment and inhumane treatment by a jail official.

The petition was submitted through Advocate Faisal Malik. Following the initial hearing, Additional District and Sessions Judge Khurram Saleem issued a notice to the prosecution and sought a response by July 16. The hearing was subsequently adjourned until the same date.

According to the petition, Bushra Bibi repeatedly complained of severe pain in her eye during her imprisonment, but the jail administration and the concerned officials failed to provide timely medical treatment.

The petition states that the delay in medical care caused her eye condition to deteriorate, eventually requiring emergency surgery.

The matter comes amid proceedings in the Islamabad High Court, which has sought a detailed report from the Adiala Jail Superintendent regarding allegations that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were being held in solitary confinement.

The petition further alleges that a jail official, identified as Maryam, behaved in an inhumane, insulting, and unprofessional manner towards Bushra Bibi.

It also claims that several complaints were lodged regarding the official’s conduct, but no effective action was taken by the authorities.

The application stated that her mother repeatedly complained of severe pain in her eye, but no attention was paid to her medical condition. It alleged that the lack of timely medical treatment caused the eye problem to worsen, ultimately requiring immediate surgery.

The applicant requested that departmental proceedings be initiated against jail employee Maryam and that she be removed from her current responsibilities due to her alleged improper, insulting, and unprofessional conduct.

The petitioner has requested the court to order a transparent investigation into the allegations, initiate legal action against those found responsible, and direct the relevant authorities to ensure that prisoners receive proper medical care and are treated in accordance with human rights standards.
