Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday held consultations with some of Pakistan’s leading industrialists and business figures as the government moved closer to unveiling the federal budget for fiscal year 2026-27.
The meeting brought together prominent members of the business community, including Mian Muhammad Mansha, Arif Habib, Atif Bajwa, Muhammad Ali Tabba and several other corporate leaders, who shared proposals aimed at strengthening economic growth and improving the business environment.
Addressing the gathering, the prime minister described the country’s industrialists as an important part of Pakistan’s identity and thanked the business community for supporting the government during challenging economic conditions.
Shehbaz said close cooperation between the public and private sectors remains essential for sustainable economic progress. He noted that consultations with businesses play a key role in shaping economic policies and future reforms.
The prime minister said the government’s economic strategy remains centred on export-led growth, adding that efforts are under way to bring more of the informal economy into the tax system. At the same time, he said, the upcoming budget would include measures designed to provide relief to the public.
He also highlighted the government’s focus on supporting industries that can increase local production, generate jobs and expand exports. According to the prime minister, stronger performance in industry, agriculture and information technology will help strengthen the economy and create new employment opportunities.
Business community welcomes reforms
During the meeting, officials briefed participants on steps taken to promote trade, industry and investment. The delegation was informed about reforms in tax tribunals aimed at speeding up the resolution of tax-related cases, as well as plans to establish Special Commercial Courts.
Business leaders welcomed the government’s efforts to improve ease of doing business and praised initiatives aimed at promoting digital payments and expanding the documented economy. They also appreciated tax reforms, lower electricity tariffs for industries, the abolition of the Export Development Levy and measures to ensure timely tax refund payments.
The delegation also welcomed the government’s decision to engage stakeholders in the budget-making process and pledged continued cooperation in efforts to support economic recovery, industrial growth and higher exports.
