Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Saturday said Pakistan believes that inclusive dialogue, mutual trust and international cooperation are the best ways to address shared challenges.
In a message marking the 59th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for ASEAN’s efforts to promote regional peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development.
“As ASEAN continues to strengthen regional integration and build its community, Pakistan remains committed to working closely with ASEAN to promote a peaceful, prosperous and integrated region,” Dar said.
According to a Foreign Office press release, Dar also conveyed his congratulations to ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn and praised his leadership and efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, resilience and prosperity.
Dar said ASEAN Day highlights the spirit of unity, solidarity and cooperation that has brought Southeast Asian nations together. He added that Pakistan joined its ASEAN partners in celebrating the occasion and reaffirming its longstanding friendship and partnership with the region.
He described ASEAN as a strong example of regional integration and collective progress, noting its achievements in economic development, social cohesion and diplomacy.
“Pakistan deeply appreciates ASEAN’s important role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region,” Dar said, adding that ASEAN Day also offered an opportunity to highlight regional cooperation and Southeast Asia’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
Dar said Pakistan’s relations with ASEAN were based on mutual respect, non-interference and constructive engagement. He added that Pakistan had actively participated in ASEAN-led dialogue platforms and remained committed to expanding cooperation in areas including trade, investment, education, culture and people-to-people exchanges.
He also highlighted Pakistan’s participation in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), saying Islamabad had contributed to efforts aimed at promoting regional peace, security and cooperation.
Dar said ASEAN’s unity and commitment to dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful cooperation were particularly important at a time of growing global challenges and uncertainty.
