Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to speed up the expansion of the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad section of the M-4 Motorway.
The section is being expanded from four lanes to six lanes. The minister set December 15 as the deadline for completing the work.
Khan gave the instructions during a meeting about development projects under the NHA Central Region. Officials briefed him on the progress of different motorway and highway projects.
The minister said all projects should be completed within their approved deadlines. He also directed officials to remove delays and speed up construction work.

The meeting also reviewed the Lodhran-Multan Expressway.
Khan told officials to speed up the early work on the Lala Musa Bypass along the N-5 National Highway.
Officials also briefed the minister about the planned repair of the Baba Farid Bridge over the River Sutlej. They said the rehabilitation work will start soon.
Several road projects in South Punjab were also discussed. These included plans to connect the Layyah and Taunsa bridges with nearby highways.
Better facilities on highways
Khan directed the NHA to maintain high construction standards at the Phool Nagar Interchange on the N-5.
He said new road projects should be designed according to modern needs.
The minister also called for better lighting and improved facilities on highways. He also directed officials to develop proper rest areas.
Khan said the Islamabad-Murree Expressway should be used as a model for future road projects.
Two lanes closed on M-2 motorway
Previously, two lanes of the M-2 motorway were closed temporarily near Khanqah Dogran because of ongoing road repair work, Pakistan’s Motorway Police have said.
The closure affects the northbound section of the motorway, where the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) is carrying out patchwork and other maintenance work.
