Authorities across Punjab are continuing strict action against drivers involved in overspeeding. As a result of improved enforcement of traffic laws, overspeeding incidents have decreased by 29% this month compared to last month.
According to a spokesperson, legal action has been taken against more than 1,000 people for overspeeding this month. In addition, over 700 vehicle owners have been issued e-challans through the Safe City camera system.
Sources said that the crackdown on overspeeding offenders is continuing across the province with the help of Safe City’s advanced surveillance cameras.
DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazir stated that the speed limit for motorcyclists throughout the province is 60 km/h. He added that speed gun devices are being used to monitor speed limits and identify traffic violations.
He further said that the effective enforcement campaign against speeding has led to a significant reduction in traffic accidents. He urged citizens to follow the prescribed speed limits to protect their own lives and the lives of others.
Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that during the ongoing crackdown, underage drivers will not only be fined, but their cars and motorcycles will also be impounded and taken to police stations.
According to the CTO, drivers operating a car with a learner’s permit or an expired license will be fined Rs. 5,000, while those riding a motorcycle with a learner’s permit or an expired license will be fined Rs. 2,000. Authorities will also take action against motorcycles carrying three riders.
He also said that holders of car or motorcycle driving licenses are not permitted to drive commercial vehicles. Drivers of buses, vans, and other public transport vehicles must possess a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license, while drivers of trucks, trailers, and other heavy vehicles are required to hold a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) license.
