Tremors from an earthquake were felt in Balochistan’s border city of Chaman and surrounding areas. According to the Seismological Centre, earthquake tremors were also recorded in Chaman and areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
No immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received following the earthquake.
The earthquake was recorded at a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 12 kilometres. The epicentre was located in a mountainous range near Chaman.
Meanwhile, earthquake tremors were also felt a day earlier in several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Swat, Malakand and Mohmand district.
According to the Seismological Centre, the previous earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9 and occurred at a depth of 196 kilometres. Its epicentre was identified in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Earthquake jolts Swat
Previously, on September 9, earthquake tremors were felt across Swat and nearby areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The earthquake measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, according to the Seismological Centre.
The centre said the earthquake occurred at a depth of around 154 kilometres. Its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
Earlier, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake was also felt in Islamabad and several parts of KP in the last week of August. The tremors were reported in Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Swat and parts of Hazara.
According to the earthquake monitoring centre, the August earthquake occurred at a depth of 187 kilometres. Its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
Indonesia Earthquake
A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia early Saturday, August 15. The earthquake killed at least 20 people and damaged homes and other buildings in the eastern Flores region.
The strong earthquake also caused landslides in several areas. Rescue teams are continuing their work as authorities assess the damage.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake struck at around 5:58 AM local time. Its epicentre was about 68 kilometres north-northwest of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province. The earthquake occurred at a depth of around 10 kilometres.
Strong tremors were felt across parts of East and West Nusa Tenggara. Many residents left their homes after the earthquake. Thousands of people in coastal areas also moved to safer locations.
