Pakistan has recorded a major increase in animal sacrifices during Eid ul Azha 2026, according to new figures released by the Pakistan Tanners Association.
The association has said that around 7.47 million animals were sacrificed across the country this year.
Last year, the number was about 6.97 million. This shows a strong increase in sacrifices during Eid ul Azha 2026, according to the reports.
According to the report, around 2.75 million cows and bulls were sacrificed during the three days of Eid ul Azha 2026.
Goats remained to be the most sacrificed animals in the country. Around 4.2 million goats were slaughtered nationwide.
The report also said that nearly 500,000 sheep and 25,000 camels were sacrificed during the Eid ul Azha festival.
The Pakistan Tanners Association also announced the latest prices of animal hides for the current season.
Cow and bull hides were priced at around Rs2,200 per piece. Goat hides were valued at Rs600 each.
Sheep hides were priced at Rs100. In addition to this, the camel hides reached around Rs2,000 per piece.
Industry experts said that the leather sector plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy during Eid ul Azha 2026.
Millions of hides that were collected during the festival are used as raw material for the country’s leather industry.
However, tannery owners say that the industry is facing several problems. These include the high processing costs, inflation, expensive electricity, and lower global demand for leather products.
The association has also estimated that the total value of sacrificial hides collected this year reached about Rs8.67 billion, reports say.
The amount is expected to support Pakistan’s leather and tannery sector despite economic challenges.
Pakistan is one of the region’s largest livestock producing countries, according to the reports.
Eid ul Azha also creates major business activity for cattle markets, transporters, butchers, leather traders, and charity groups across the country.
