The president of the United States (US), Donald Trump, held a two hour meeting with aides at the White House today. The meeting was held to discuss a possible extension of the cease fire, according to a senior administration official, US media reports state.
Earlier, Trump had said on social media that he was ready to make a decision. The New York Times has reported that President Trump has put off ‘final determination’ on the Iran proposal.
Trump urges immediately reopening of Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, called on Iran to permanently agree that it will never obtain a nuclear weapon.
He also demanded that the Strait of Hormuz be immediately opened for unrestricted shipping in both directions, with no tolls or restrictions.
He stated that any water mines in the area would be cleared, noting that US naval forces had already removed several mines through controlled detonations.
In his message, Trump also referred to enriched nuclear material described as “nuclear dust.” He stated that it was buried deep underground and would be recovered and destroyed by the United States in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Marco Rubio appreciates Pakistan’s diplomatic role
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he held a meeting with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, reaffirming Washington’s appreciation for Islamabad’s diplomatic role in promoting peace efforts in the Middle East.
In a message posted on X, Rubio thanked Pakistan for “the role Pakistan continues to play in advancing peace in the Middle East,” highlighting ongoing cooperation between the two countries on regional stability and security matters.
