Officials have announced holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 and the upcoming Spring season in Pakistan. Will the educational institutions remain closed during this period?
According to the notification, the Punjab University will remain completely closed from Friday, March 20, 2026, to Monday, March 23, 2026, for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 holidays.
During these four days, all teaching and administrative departments, offices, institutes, centres, affiliated colleges, and schools will suspend regular operations.
The university administration stated that the decision has been taken to facilitate students and staff in celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with their families and observing the religious festival with ease and convenience.
Following the Eid holidays, the university will observe its Spring Recess. All teaching departments, institutes, centres, constituent colleges, and schools will remain closed from Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to Friday, March 27, 2026, for the spring break.
Academic activities are scheduled to resume on Monday, March 30, 2026. The consecutive holidays will allow students not only to celebrate Eid but also to take time for rest and academic preparation before the resumption of classes.
However, the notification stated that administrative staff will return to their duties from Tuesday, March 24, 2026, immediately after the Eid holidays.

When will Shawwal moon for Eid ul Fitr 2026 be sighted in Pakistan?
The Meteorological Department of Pakistan (PMD) earlier issued a forecast regarding the Shawwal moon sighting for Eid ul Fitr 2026.

According to the details given by the department, there is no possibility of sighting the Shawwal moon on March 19.
This means that the moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born at 6:23 AM on March 19.
At the time of sunset, the moon’s age at most meteorological stations will be between 12 to 13 hours. This situation is not suitable for sighting.
The final decision rests with Pakistan’s Central Ruet e Hilal Committee. They will make an official announcement after moon sighting at the designated time.

Eid ul Fitr, 1st Shawal 1447 AH, is expected to be observed from March 21 to March 23, depending on the official moon sighting announcement.
Similarly, Eid ul fitr 2026 holidays are expected to be officially confirmed closer to the date.

The holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr and Pakistan Day are expected to fall together in 2026, as Ramzan is likely to end on March 19 or March 20, 2026.
If the moon is sighted on March 19, then Eid ul Fitr 2026 in Pakistan will be celebrated on March 20. If the moon is sighted a day later, Eid will be observed on March 21.
